Reducing Food Waste & Increasing Compost

Starting a compost at home is one of the best ways to reduce food waste going to landfill.

Plus, your compost feeds your garden during the change of seasons, connecting you to your food cycle full-circle.

We offer composting workshops for those folks just getting started, or for those wanting to understand how to do it even better!

Pop in to Anamata or get in touch to learn more, or to receive food scraps for your animals or compost.

  • Through compost, food waste becomes circular.

The Compost Collective

Compost Collective is there to help Aucklanders on their composting journey, eliminating food scraps and garden waste from landfill in Tāmaki Makaurau and returning them to nourish the land locally.

Their composting experts will help you learn the basics of composting, answer your questions, break down barriers, and show you how easy it can be. All composting workshop attendees receive a coupon towards a composting system of your choice.

Love Food Hate Waste

Love Food Hate Waste NZ exists to empower New Zealanders to take action on household food waste — an issue costing over $3 billion each year. Established under WasteMINZ in 2016 as part of the global Love Food Hate Waste movement founded by WRAP, we work with councils, community groups, and industry partners nationwide to disrupt the take-make-waste cycle. Guided by research and driven by collaboration, we deliver evidence-based campaigns and practical tools that help households reduce waste, save money, and lower their environmental impact.

Auckland Council’s goal is to send zero waste to landfill by 2040. Together, we’re helping make Auckland one of the most liveable cities in the world.
